Fanyana Peter Mhlophe is a native of South Africa, born during the dark years of the Apartheid government in South Africa.

In 1968, he married Sibongile Jessie Mhlophe who is now also an ordained minister in Baptist Convention of South Africa. They were blessed with two daughters Nonhlanhla and Gift.

Mhlophe received his education for ministry at the Baptist Bible Institute and the Northern Baptist College in Manchester, England, when he obtained a Master's degree in Contextual Ministry. Mhlophe became one of the prominent leaders in the Baptist Convention of South Africa. He served as the first President when the Baptist Convention became an autonomous body in 1987 and also served as the General Secretary from 1990-1991.

He also served as a local pastor of the following churches: Themba Baptist Church, Mamelodi Baptist Church and Meadowlands Baptist Church where he retired from full-time pastoral ministry in 2017. He was also part-time lecturer as the Baptist Convention College from 1997–2017.

While serving at Meadowland Baptist Church in Soweto, Mhlophe had a dream to start a leadership training ministry under the name YOUNEBA,  short for “You will never be alone”. This ministry focuses  on the relationship between pastors and lay ministry leaders. Mhlophe continues to serve the Lord through YOUNEBA and is member of Nkangala Baptist Church where his wife Sibongile is the senior pastor.
